Hundreds of chairs have been set up since Thursday for those attending the presidential press conference on Sunday, and the Zócalo square has been surrounded by metal fences to divide the areas.
Some of the lighting for the national holiday has already been installed on the facades of the buildings surrounding the Zócalo.
López Obrador will deliver a speech in the Plaza de la Constitución that, he anticipated, will be longer than the five he has given so far, as it will include an account of everything that has been done during his six-year term.
For the preparations, the central platform in front of the National Palace, almost on the corner with Moneda Street, but with a view of the Jewelry Center, and the towers for the sound equipment and mega screens have already been set up.
The Mass Transportation System temporarily closed the entrances and exits of the Metro to the Plaza de la Constitución.
There are also police filters from the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) at the entrance to the road from the streets of 20 de Noviembre, José María Pino Suarez, 5 de Febrero and 5 de Mayo, although for now the passage has not been completely closed.
The report and message in the Zócalo is a custom that López Obrador has followed during his years in government, but according to the law, it will be the person in charge of the Ministry of the Interior who will deliver the document to the General Congress at the opening of the First Period of Ordinary Sessions of the First Year of Exercise of the respective Legislature.
This will happen at 5 p.m. on Sunday, after the two chambers of Congress have been installed and the beginning of the 66th Legislature has been declared.
Meanwhile, in the Zócalo, in the Government Building, the Viceroyalty Building, the Jewelry Center and the Zócalo Merchants Building, work is well underway to install the national lighting, with silhouettes of national heroes, for the El Grito ceremony.
This ceremony is part of the national commemorations for Mexico’s Independence and is led by the president in office.
López Obrador announced that he will invite President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum to accompany him to the ceremony.
