Olympic gymnast Jossimar Calvo and his wife experienced moments of tension last Saturday, December 6, when an explosive charge detonated as their vehicle passed by.

Colombian gymnast Jossimar Calvo and his wife were unharmed after two strong explosions occurred near their vehicle on the Eastern Ring Road of Cúcuta.
Through his social networks, the athlete thanked the show of support and recounted the moment of anguish they experienced.

Jossimar Calvo thanks the support received
Through his social networks, Calvo expressed his gratitude for the displays of solidarity and recounted the anguish they experienced:
“My partner and I were going through a very difficult moment, but thank God today we can say that we are fine.”
The gymnast highlighted that, despite the violence of the attack, none suffered injuries:

“Fortunately, everything was left in material damage. God protected us and took care of us in the midst of a situation that could have been much worse. Thank you for your messages, blessings and prayers.”
Attack leaves vehicle destroyed and road affected
The explosion caused severe car damage and fractured the pavement of the Eastern Ring Road. Images released by residents show scattered fragments of the road, broken glass, detached tires and the deformed vehicle chassis.


The attack is part of a series of violent incidents that occurred between Saturday night and early Sunday morning, including harassment of a CAI and an explosion that left two dead police officersfacts that the authorities attribute to the ELN.

Jossimar Orlando Calvo Morenoborn in Cúcuta, is considered the most successful gymnast in Colombia. He began training at the age of seven and made his first major international appearance in the Guadalajara 2011 Pan American Gamesobtaining gold and silver at the age of 17.
Among his main achievements are:
- Gold in the Central American and Caribbean Games of Veracruz 2014
- Gold in the Chile South American Games 2014
- Medals in the Incheon World Cup (South Korea, 2014)
- Three golds, one silver and one bronze in the Toronto 2015 Pan American Gamesbecoming the Colombian most awarded in a single edition
Calvo also represented Colombia in the Rio 2016 Olympic Gamesreaching the final on parallel bars and ranking among the best gymnasts in the world.
Wave of violence in Cúcuta
The attack that affected Calvo and his wife occurred in the middle of a series of bomb attacks in Cúcuta during that weekend, including one against a police patrol that left two agents dead. The authorities point to the ELN as responsible, in possible retaliation for recent operations against the guerrilla.
