“It presents many operations”: Central Bank of Cuba blocks account of animal rights organization

“Our account is moving because our association is alive,” Animal Welfare Cuba highlighted in a statement.

LIMA, Peru – The Central Bank of Cuba blocked the account of the independent NGO Bienestar Animal Cuba (BAC) under the justification that “it presents many operations,” according to the association itself. via Facebook.

In a statement, the animal rights organization says that it demanded that the Bank resolve the grievance, but they were informed that only the director of the state entity was authorized to review and unblock these types of cases.

“Our account moves because our association is alive. Behind each transfer there is an animal that will eat, a treatment that is paid for, a surgery that is done on time, a life that is not abandoned,” explains the BAC in its note.

Given the lack of knowledge of the banking authorities about the functioning of NGOs, articulated from donations, Animal Welfare Cuba highlighted that 90% of the money that enters its account comes from within the Island.

“From the doctor who reserves a part of his salary, from the old woman who shares the little she has, from the housewife who saves coins, from the journalist, from the worker, from the mechanic, from the driver… to the common people who love this association and trust in what we do for animals in Cuba,” the statement says.

The BAC clarified that as an organization it does not receive money from any entity, international association, party, government or institution.

In relation to donations from abroadthe BAC pointed out that they receive “very few” each month. On average, they do not exceed $40 and always come from natural persons, mostly Cubans.

“For this reason, when today we talk about ‘many operations’, for us that has another name: there are many acts of trust, many gestures of love, many hands extended towards the animals we rescue,” the publication highlights.

BAC members announced that next Tuesday they would hold a meeting with banking authorities. On this matter, they plan to explain with respect and total determination the right of the association to continue operating with transparency during its life-saving exercise.

“This account is not just a number in a system: it is the bridge between the will to help and the real possibility of changing the destiny of many animals (…) What is at stake today is not only access to a bank account: it is the ability to continue responding when an animal needs us,” they stressed.
