Cuban fans want MLB games to be broadcast on national television.
Havana, Cuba. – Many have been in recent times the opinions that have been poured, both inside the island and abroad, about the convenience that Cuban television broadcasts the balls of the major baseball leagues (MLB). But so far the island authorities continue with the refusal to make these transmissions.
Several weeks ago he began to air on the Tele Rebelde channel, every Monday at 7:00 at night, the program Extra swingdedicated to providing information about the world of baseball. And a good part of those information about the MLB.
Journalists Rodolfo García, Reinier González and Camilo Pérez Pérez review the state of the teams in the Great Tent, the most important events of the last week in that league, and also the performance of the Cuban players in the championship. According to the criteria of the official press, there has been great advance in that regard.
However, for the average fan it is not enough. Because, what is worth mentioning those players, to show a compendium with the best plays of the last confrontations, if not a single game of the big leagues is transmitted? Anyone would say that it is a mockery of the authorities.
And, in the meantime, Cuban television provided complete coverage to the newly finished world football club championship. Up to three daily games of that league were transmitted. It seems that Cuba was a world football power, and detailed information about the possible opponents of our national team would be needed. But the reality is that Cuban football does not raise their heads in the Central American area. Recently the National Team of Cuba was eliminated in the competitions to qualify for the next World Championship.
International soccer coverage on television, as it is logical to imagine, has penetrated deeply in fans. It is already difficult to say that baseball is our national sport. The new generations of Cubans speak of Messi, Ronaldo, Mbape and others, while they barely refer to the players who stand out the most in our national series. Everywhere you can see Real Madrid or Barcelona, and almost none of the industrialists or other team of the national ball.
All of the above has been reflected in the official position that Cuban baseball occupies today. A country that won three Olympics and obtained the runner -up in two of those games, has currently descended until the 12th place in the world ranking. Japan, Taipei from China, United States, South Korea, Mexico, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Netherlands, Panama, Dominican Republic and Australia. Some of those countries even have much less tradition than Cuba in the sport of balls and Strikes.
Now the official attention focuses on the VI World Classic to be held in March 2026. A new director for the team, Germán Mesa, has been appointed, hoping to be able to perform a decorous performance.
It is expected that efforts are made so that Peloteros of Cuban origin that act in the MLB integrate the selection of the largest of the Antilles. However, there are reasons that could be brought in the viability of such an objective.
In the first place we have that kind of ingratitude of the Cuban federative towards the players who access that request. They use them – as were the cases of Joan Moncada and Luis Robert Moirán – and then they don’t talk about them, nor do they report their performances in the MLB.
On the other hand, some players wonder how the Cuba team will integrate, if the authorities, refusing to televise the MLB games, have prevented their relatives from seeing their performances.
It is that the Castro Sports authorities, apparently, have not learned that to receive favors, you must first be generous with which they can offer them.
