“It is a shame to spend 20 years to approve a consensual Penal Code,” says Abinader

“Es una pena pasar 20 años para aprobar un Código Penal consensuado”, dice Abinader

Santo Domingo.- With just a few days left before the deadline for studying the Penal Code project expires, President Luis Abinader expressed this Monday during La Semanal’s meeting with the Press that the piece should be studied and agreed upon better.

“In the task force they complained about some articles of the penal Code “These were going to weaken the fight against crime and public safety. It is a shame that this is 20 years old and there are still imperfections, regardless of the ideological differences and criteria that exist around the code. I believe that this code should be studied and agreed upon better, that is my opinion, not even extending the legislative period would be necessary,” said the president.

Meanwhile, this Monday the commission studying the piece continues working on the National Congress without offering any guarantee that the report will be ready within the established deadline.

The deadline for the commission to submit its report recommending approval of the penal code expires on Wednesday, just one day before the end of the legislative session.
