The Vaccination Program would have 1,029 million pesos less, according to an analysis by the organization Pact for Early Childhood.
“We call on Congress to prioritize and strengthen investment in early childhood in the 2025 budget. It is essential to ensure that the allocated resources are sufficient to cover the basic development needs of girls and boys under 6 years of age,” the organization noted in a statement.
Gender equality
Another contradiction between the possible 2025 budget and Sheinbaum’s commitments is located in the resources to achieve equality between women and men, because the proposed spending is not allocated to policies to reduce these gaps.
In the project, for example, no budget is identified for the Women’s Secretariat, one of the new agencies created by the Sheinbaum government. In addition, the National Women’s Institute (Inmujeres) has a planned expenditure of 966.6 million pesos, a reduction of 4.8% in real terms compared to 2024.
In total, a budget of 508,000 million pesos is planned to promote gender equality, but 52.5% is allocated to pensions, says the CIEP.
“Although it is necessary support, allocating more than half of the budget for substantive equality to pensions does not guarantee access to basic services such as health, childcare and job opportunities,” he explains.
