The reactions of the government of President Gustavo Petro continue to the United States’ decision to remove Cuba from the list of countries that promote terrorism.

To the message from the president, who congratulated his counterpart Joe Biden and described the measure as “an advance” towards integration between the United States and Latin America, Foreign Minister Luis Gilberto Murillo joined in, who described the decision as fair.

The chancellor reiterated that Colombia, “He is against unilateral and extraterritorial actions like that.” In that sense, he insisted that similar decisions should be extended to other countries, without specifically mentioning which one.

Earlier, The Foreign Ministry issued a statement in which it celebrated the decision of the United States and, in addition, reiterated its gratitude to the Cuban people. for the efforts and constant support in the negotiation and dialogue processes necessary to achieve peace in Colombia.

“Due to our firm conviction in multilateralism as a principle of international relations, we reject the imposition of sanctions and unilateral measures and therefore, together with other allied countries in the region, “We support the efforts and requests for the sister Republic of Cuba to be excluded from this list.”said the entity.

The Foreign Ministry added that “we reiterate the call for it to be within the framework of multilateral organizations and mechanisms where decisions that, inevitably, affect the well-being of the people and the stability of the region are addressed, discussed and made.”
