MIAMI, United States. — Cuban Freemasons reacted to the resignation of the Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Cuba of AL y AM, Francisco Javier Alfonso Vidal, who announced this Tuesday that he had requested political asylum in the United States due to the pressure from state security.
Brian Infante, who was expelled by Freemasonry in Cuba due to pressure from the island’s regime, declared to CubaNet that the Freemasons of the Island have condemned on several occasions the violence of the dictatorship, which has turned that brotherhood into an uncomfortable entity for Castroism.
“We all know that the Grand Lodge is leaked. So, they want to destroy the Supreme Council because that is where the institutional resistance against the dictatorship lies, said Infante, better known on social networks as “A thinking asere.”
For his part, the Cuban writer Ángel Santiesteban assured that “it is a pity that the Grand Master Francisco Javier Alfonso Vidal cannot demonstrate with evidence what he says”.
“It has been very hard for Freemasonry to digest this matter that a Grand Master has stayed, but, in any case, being a Grand Master Mason does not imply having to face the repressive machinery of Castroism,” Santiesteban explained in one of his speeches. .
The renowned opponent explained that the complaint made by Alfonso Vidal includes a series of events that have happened on other occasions within the Grand Lodge, but that until now no one had said publicly.
What happened this Tuesday had not happened since 1960, when the then Grand Master Juan José Trajano González went into exile in the United States and denounced the threats, intimidation and terror of the Cuban Freemasons who repudiated the communist doctrine.
