The number of Mexicans classified as inadmissible
In the entrance ports of the United States – people who tried to enter regularly but without the appropriate documentation, either by land, sea or air – fell dramatically in the first five months of the Trump government: 15 thousand 713 cases compared to 52 thousand 943 in the previous six months. This decline coincides with a decrease in irregular crosses and with the executive order of the magnate of January 22 that restricted the entry of migrants even by legal roads.
According to data from the Office of Customs and Border Protection (CBP) published by the TRAC Independent Observatory (Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse) of the University of Syracuse, Mexicans are the nationality most affected by these restrictions: they represent most of the 65 thousand 870 migrants classified as inadmissible
In the American entrance ports during the first months of Trump’s new mandate, followed by Citizens of Canada and China.
The term inadmissible
It refers to those who, after being inspected in an entry port, are rejected for not complying with the migratory requirements established by immigration laws.
In January of last year, 14,647 Mexicans were classified in this category, and in June 2025 the figure was 3,491. In total, during the first six months of 2024, more than 87 thousand cases of inadmissible Mexicans were recorded, in front of just over 15 thousand in the same period of 2025.
Despite the restrictions imposed by Trump, not all migrants were rejected. Between January and May of 2025, 12,347 people from different nationalities classified in the first instance as inadmissible
They entered the country under word, a figure that allows temporary income for humanitarian reasons or public interest. In addition, 2,680 were allowed to enter with a notification to appear before an immigration court.
According to the trac, the daily number of people admitted under word has been reduced to only one third of what the Biden administration allowed. Similarly, the number of asylum applicants or other people who managed to monitor their cases collapsed just one percent of the daily average registered under the previous government.
