New York. Naasón Joaquín García, leader of the La Luz del Mundo Church, who turns more than 16 years in a California prison for sexually abusing young parishioners, has been formally accused of conspiracy of organized crime and sexual trafficking, the authorities reported yesterday.
A federal jury in New York issued the accusation claiming that Joaquín García, 56, and five other people, including his mother, who yesterday was arrested, exploited the church for decades to allow the systematic sexual abuse of children and women for the gratification of the religious leader and his father, Samuel Joaquín Flores, who died in 2014.
The new accusatory act indicates that the criminal activity included the creation of photos and videos of child sexual abuse that began after the Church was founded a century ago by the grandfather of Joaquín García, who died in 1964. From that moment on, Naason’s father was in charge of the Church until his death.
The accusation states that sexual abuse continued for so many decades that many of the grandfather’s victims were mothers of girls and women who were abused by Joaquín Flores, and many of the victims of this were the mothers of girls and women who were abused by Joaquín García.
The Church is based in Guadalajara, Jalisco, and there are several temples in the United States, such as California, New York, Nevada, Texas, Georgia and Indiana.
