The news was announced by the US president, Donald Trumpand internally confirmed by Turning Point USA, while the police maintained a search engine operation, according to CNN reports in Spanish, BBC and Telemundo news.
Trump wrote in Truth Social: “The great, and even legendary Charlie Kirk has died. No one understood or had the heart of the United States youth better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by all, especially for me, and now he is no longer with us. Melania and I express our most condolences to his beautiful wife Erika and his family. Charlie, we love you!”
According to CNN in SpanishTurning Point USA communicated in a note to his staff and supporters: “With great regret, we, the Turning Point USA leadership team, we write to notify them that this afternoon, Charlie went to his eternal reward with Jesus Christ in heaven.”
The UVU indicated that, although initially a detained person was reported and a video of someone handcuffed circulated, there was no suspect in custody, according to his spokesman. The BBC added that the police were still “building by building” to evacuate people and that the safe area had not been declared. The university asked those who remained on the campus to protect themselves until they were escorted and canceled the classes until further notice.
On the dynamics of the attack, NBC News, cited by Telemundo Newshe reported that the shot came from the Losee Center, about 200 meters from the place where Kirk was, and that he was the only baleada person. Videos disseminated in networks show the moment of shot and blood on the activist’s neck, after which panic spread among those present.
