MIAMI, United States. – The Cuban singer Emilio Frías, leader of the group El Niño y la Verdad, announced on his Instagram profile that the band’s concert scheduled for this Friday in La Plaza Roja de La Víbora had been suspended due to “outside problems” to the group.
“I am super sad and disappointed because I had organized a great show to do my farewell, in addition to being my first massive concert (that is, on the street) after my return to the stage in Cuba, but it could not be,” lamented the musician.
He also reported that this Saturday he will be at the Casa de la Música in Miramar, two days before traveling to Mexico. “On Monday I leave for Mexico, I will keep you all informed here of what I am going to and all the beautiful things that await me in that #misegundapatria,” she wrote.
In November 2022, El Niño y la Verdad made headlines for the cancellation of his presentations at the “Baila en Cuba” event, where he had scheduled performances. As Frías denounced at the time, it was an act of censorship by the Cuban authorities.
“Here is another proof of the censorship that I am experiencing in Cuba… Right off the bat they changed the programming and El Niño and La Verdad were left out of the ‘Baila en Cuba’ event, an event organized among others by my own representation agency with the that I have a double bond (Cuban Clave) and with whom I had long agreed to be in Cuba on this date to participate in this event,” Frías explained through Facebook.
A month before, the musician also denounced that El Niño y la Verdad had been censored since his return to Cuba on October 9, 2022, after a tour of Mexico.
Frías explained that since then the cultural authorities had suspended the concerts that his orchestra had scheduled for more than three months and had moved previously recorded television programs from the billboard.
“We have had a pitched battle and it has been an odyssey to be able to present ourselves on the Island, and even so we have not had any results, we have not had a clear and exact answer as to what is happening, although I can imagine it. (Although they tell me , in the Cuban Institute of Music and Ministry of Culture that I have no prohibition from working or appearing on Cuban Television, the reality that I am living is completely different,” he said.
On September 10, 2021, the group was censored while offering a concert at the Casa de la Música de Galiano. When Frías spoke to the public about the censorship of his subject Changelocal security agents turned off the audio.
