The supposed news that Sweden made the first sex championship official led to several media outlets in different countries publishing notes about it.
“Sex is the new fashionable sport in Sweden. The Scandinavian country is the first in the world to register sexual practices as an official sports discipline,” said El Mundo from Spain.
“Sweden has become the first country in the world to declare sex as a sport, and even created a National Federation that will manage everything related to this new physical activity,” wrote Semana de Colombia magazine.
“With the first international tournament, where at least 20 representatives from different countries will participate, who will have to pass 16 tests in six weeks, Sweden makes intimate relationships official as a sport,” published Telemundo de México.
It is not true that Sweden is the first country to declare sex as an official sport. The rumor was denied by the verification unit of Deutsche Welle, as well as the Spanish portals Maldita.es and Newtral.
The organization responsible for the sex contest —which is actually a porn reality show—, the Swedish Sex Federation, does not have the approval of the Swedish National Sports Confederation, the highest sports authority in the Scandinavian country.

According to Göteborgs-Posten, one of the leading Swedish-language dailies, the Swedish citizen Dragan Bratic was behind it all. Bratic owns several strip clubs and wanted sex to be classified as a sport. He applied to become a member of the confederation in January this year, but was rejected.
Björn Eriksson, president of the Swedish Sports Confederation, assured on the Swedish television program TV4, that sex would not be part of the confederation and would not be considered a sport: “I just hope this nonsense goes away. It will be a unanimous no on our part,” he said.
The Swedish Government Ministry of Social Affairs also confirmed to Newtral.es that sex is not recognized as a sport in that country and no such organization is associated with the Swedish Sports Confederation. “The Swedish Federation of Sex website is not connected with any official Swedish association and no official events of this kind are taking place in Sweden.”
