Israeli police shot and “neutralized” a man who stabbed and slightly injured two officers in Jerusalem’s Old City, according to a report on Monday.
An attacker “armed with a knife stabbed two officers” stationed in the Old City of Jerusalem, located in the eastern part of the city occupied and annexed by Israel, the police said in a statement.
“Officers responded by firing in his direction and neutralized him,” police added.
The attacker, who was not immediately identified, has not died, a spokesman told AFP, without giving further details about his state of health.
“The two officers were slightly injured in the attack and taken to hospital,” police said.
Starting in October 2015 and continuing for several months, Jerusalem, the West Bank, and other parts of Israel saw numerous knife attacks against Israelis, mostly committed by Palestinian youths.
That type of attack has decreased, but violence and clashes have increased in the past year in the West Bank, according to recent data from the Israeli army and the UN.
