Isaías Rodríguez passed away

This Sunday it was known death of Julián Isaías Rodríguez, promoter of the revolutionary process in the country.

He was a member of the constituent assemblies of 1999 and 2017, and the last position he held was that of Ambassador of Venezuela to Italy.

He played a fundamental role during the coup d’état of April 11, 2002 against Commander Hugo Chávez, when he served as attorney general.

By then, Rodríguez called a press conference in which he would supposedly officially present his resignation, however, what he did was denounce the true situation that was occurring in the country at that time.

After obtaining information about the state of Chávez in Fuerte Tiuna and confirming that he had not actually resigned from office, he announced to the country live and direct that a coup d’état was being carried out.

President Nicolás Maduro has stated that “what Isaías did was fundamental for the April rebellion and revolution.”

Rodríguez was born in Valle de la Pascua, Guárico state, on December 16, 1942. A lawyer by profession, graduated from the Central University of Venezuela, he was the first executive vice president of Venezuela, under the new constitution of 1999; attorney general of the Republic and second vice president of the National Constituent Assembly, convened in 2017.

The prosecutor of dignity died in Caracas, this Sunday, January 12, at 82 years of age.
