From the General Directorate of Donations, Transplants and Blood Bank (Digdot), its head Juan Almeyda Alcántara, pointed out that the search and organ and tissue transplantation is performed only in hospitals or high complexity health institutes with specialized medical personnel.
“Organs and tissues cannot be obtained in inadequate conditions, making a procurement outside of a hospital is not feasible. In addition, there is no complaint about the kidnapping of children to remove their organs”, stressed the official.
Can organs be transplanted from children to adults?
Likewise, Juan Almeyda clarified that the organs and tissues of a child cannot be transplanted to adultssince, in most cases, transplants are performed only between compatible people of similar ages.
“To carry out a transplant there must be a general compatibility between the donor and the patient who will receive the organ or tissue, therefore, it is not possible to extract organs at random to place them in any personAlmeida said.
The Minsa also pointed out that when an organ or tissue is removed, it is cared for under very specific conditions until it is transplanted. In addition, the person who receives it passes, previously, through various studies before the operation.
How many people are waiting for a donated organ?
According to Digdot, to date, more than 5,000 people are waiting for an organ or tissue. Most require corneas, followed by kidneys, liver, heart, and lung.
