The Minsa also pointed out that when an organ or tissue is removed, it is cared for under very specific conditions until it is transplanted. In addition, the person who receives it passes, previously, through various studies before the operation.

How many people are waiting for a donated organ?

According to Digdot, to date, more than 5,000 people are waiting for an organ or tissue. Most require corneas, followed by kidneys, liver, heart, and lung.

Background

In 2014 in Puente Piedra, Ancón and Ventanilla, a rumor circulated about an alleged couple of kidnappers who captured children to extract their organs and sell them on the black market. The prosecution denied that the Lima morgue recorded any related income. The information was also rejected by municipal and police authorities.
