How much is the fine for not respecting Hoy No Circula?
On January 8, Inegi announced the update of the value of the Measurement and Update Unit (UMA), which comes into force as of February 1, 2026.
As Hoy No Circula fines are calculated in UMAs, the annual adjustment directly impacts the amount payable.
-Value of the UMA in 2025: 113.14 pesos
-Value of the UMA in 2026: 117.31 pesos
The penalty for failing to comply with the environmental program ranges from 20 to 30 UMAs, depending on the authority’s criteria.
With the new value, the fines look like this:
-Minimum fine (20 UMAs): 2,346 pesos
-Maximum fine (30 UMAs): 3,519 pesos
That is, starting in February, violating Hoy No Circula will represent a greater expense, so a quick check before leaving can make a difference.
