The Minister of the Interior, Vicente Tiburciospoke about foreign migration in Peru and assured that migrants who are irregularly “no longer have space” in the country.
The head of the Mininter highlighted that the Executive ordered a state of emergency in the border areas, to reinforce border security and prevent the entry of undocumented migrants.
“Those people who we have always been detecting who are irregularly no longer have space to be here in our Peruvian territory. We have six provinces and 28 districts in the entire border area that have declared a state of emergency,” he indicated.
The minister’s statements took place during a territorial control operation carried out by the National Police of Peru in Villa el Salvador. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hugo de Zela, also participated in the investigation.
“Differentiated work is being done to be able to carry out control. We are already in Tacna, we are in Desaguadero and so we are going to Madre de Dios to be able to do all the coverage and have better control with foreign citizens,” said Tiburcio.
The official explained that, during the operation, 280 police officers were deployed in critical points of the capital. In addition, he assured that PNP agents intervened in the early hours of the morning on 100 foreigners to verify their immigration status, of which six of them were irregular.
“We have to continue doing verifications, interventions, records of everything that people who are passing through, both vehicles [como] of people,” he said.
