The pre-candidate for the free nomination for the Mayor of San Miguelito, Irma Hernández, in an interview with Radio Panama, considers that the Electoral Tribunal has not established clear parameters for the signature process in the process that they carry out for the different independent pre-candidates.
In a joint statement, the pre-candidates for free postulation appeared at the headquarters of the Electoral Tribunal to express their dissatisfaction since they consider that their constitutional rights have not been enforced and that they will file legal actions to protect the will of the voters.
“The signature is no longer pen and paper, now a video is made and there are candidates who have published since October that they were noticing irregularities in the use of the application, which allowed you to record the floor, record the sky and allowed you the signing, but there are other pre-candidates who have made human errors, the fruit cart sounds, the plane sounds, it was raining and they are all putting us in the same package, the Electoral Tribunal said it was going to carry out audits and I applaud their interest in applying technology in these processes but honestly they were not prepared and are improvising with the independent candidates and this is a violation of democracy,” said Hernández
In the document presented by the pre-candidates, they requested 5 specific points so that the system improves and the irregularities that have arisen in the signing process are avoided, where the Electoral Tribunal has already reported that it will be conducting audits.
On the issue of audits, Hernández considers that the Electoral Tribunal has not acted in the best way “according to what they told us, they tried to find an external company that would do the double audit but none applied, how do you start a process where you know you should have a technological test and you are not auditing at the same time, since the first day, since August 15, videos were being uploaded to the application as backup firms, they should have been auditing and calling the pre-candidates every week informing them how many signatures they have , how many are valid, how many canceled and not wait for thousands of signatures to be reviewed, which company is going to get into something that it had not planned, now they are turning to the Technological University of Panama that they trusted is an institution impeccable but it has also been tarnished by the ruling party”.
