President Laurentino Cortizo, sanctioned Law 302 of May 31, 2022, which establishes the training program on education in sexuality and affectivity.
The purpose of this law is to establish the training program on Education in Sexuality and Affectivity, in order to protect children and adolescents from early pregnancies, sexually transmitted infections and sexual crimes.
The lawyer and activist for the women’s movement, Irma Hernández, highlighted that this initiative comes to settle a historical debt that exists in terms of early sexual health. “Panama had lagged behind in this matter, we did not have any type of input, it was very open if the teacher wanted to give it, there are already much more specific guidelines,” she specified.
He added that this education has to be scientifically proven, it must be free of indoctrination, it has to provide protection to minors.
The Training Program on Education in Sexuality and Affectivity must be implemented in all official and private educational centers, shelters, community boards, health centers, homes and care centers, custody and compliance centers for adolescents and young people in conflict with the law in the Republic of Panama.
