The deputy to the National Assembly (AN), Iris Varela, denounced that the extremist opposition violated the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the Penal Code, by attacking the country’s institutions, for which she pointed out that “their plan was never electoral,” According to the State Channel’s website.
“They [los extremistas] They announced this scenario, we must not appeal to short memory but to the mark they have left in the media and social networks,” said the parliamentarian in an interview with VTV.
He explained that the current Penal Code establishes the crime of treason, while the Constitution establishes the duty to defend the country.
However, “since the revolutionary process began, there have been people who have committed these crimes and are unpunished and want to stand as candidates. These people cannot be candidates in a self-respecting country.”
The parliamentarian cited Article 128 of the Penal Code, which states: “Anyone who, in agreement with a foreign nation or with external enemies, conspires against the integrity of the territory of the Homeland or against its republican institutions, or attacks it by any means for any of these purposes, will be punished with a prison sentence of twenty to thirty years.”
National Assembly to consider permanent disqualification
On this point, he indicated that “in the National Assembly we are going to have to do something about it. Here we have to go for a permanent disqualification of anyone who is involved in crimes as serious as this one.”
Varela acknowledged the work of the Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, “because he has not given these bandits a chance to put on the mask of political prisoners. If Carmona’s coup lasted 48 hours, the coup of these criminals lasted 24 hours.”
He said that “they have made all kinds of maneuvers to mount and sustain their story that they are losing. On Monday the 29th they presented a country in flames, it did not last 24 hours, because there are people who want to live in peace.”
Finally, the deputy said that “with Operation Tun Tun, peace has been guaranteed, because these people acted in a safe manner, because of a power that protects them, like the United States, and all that global economic and media power. We cannot let their story prevail,” she said.
