The spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, Esmaeil Baqaei, stated this Monday that the United States constitutes the greatest threat to world peace and security, applying a pattern of use of unilateral force and coercion.
In his weekly press conference, the spokesperson was asked about Washington’s hostile actions against several nations, including Venezuela, after its military deployment in the Caribbean.
“The reality is that the United States, with the behavior it has shown during this time, has become the greatest threat to international peace and security,” he asserted.
He added that in all corners of the world one can witness actions based on threats and the use of force by the North American country. “In the Western Hemisphere, threats against Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua and even Brazil and Mexico are constantly repeated by US officials,” he said.
Baqaei also emphasized that the closure or declaration of airspace closure of a country is an unprecedented action, being contrary to all international rules and regulations, as well as regulations related to aviation security.
In addition, he referred to Washington’s threats against African countries, “including the statement that, for example, South Africa does not have the right to participate in the G20 summit, constitute another example of this approach.”
The spokesperson recalled that the US has given unwavering support to the criminal actions committed by Israel in the region.
Support for Venezuela in the face of US aggression
The spokesperson reiterated that Iran maintains a relationship with Venezuela based on mutual respect and shared interests, and that Tehran has always expressed “our solidarity with the people and Government” of the South American nation.
«We believe that Venezuela faces a war and an illegal threat from the United States Government. There is no basis in international law that justifies such action by the United States. The pretext of drugs is nothing more than an excuse,” he said.
Likewise, he stressed that competent international institutions have confirmed that Venezuela is not considered a source or origin of drug trafficking.
Baqaei urged the international community, “including European countries that claim to be defenders of the rule of law and international law,” to take measures to confront Washington’s belligerent unilateralism.
He called to not allow this model based on “the use of force and threat” against independent countries to become a broad threat against international order and security.
Last Saturday, the Venezuelan government condemned the “colonialist threat” from the United States, after President Donald Trump dared to “try to give orders and threaten the sovereignty of national airspace,” by announcing that Venezuelan airspace is blocked.
