Iran expresses interest in expanding relations with Venezuela

Ramón Velásquez Araguayán, Venezuelan Minister of Transport and president of the Joint Economic Commission between Iran and Venezuela, traveled to Tehran to meet with Iranian authorities.

Velásquez conveyed the warm greetings of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro to the high authorities of Iran, and extended a cordial greeting from his country’s Foreign Minister, Iván Gil, to Araqchi. The Venezuelan Minister of Transport noted President Maduro’s special emphasis on continuing efforts to deepen relations between the two countries in various fields, especially in the economic and energy areas, and expressed his confidence that the upward trend in relations will continue strongly under the new governments of both nations.

For his part, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi congratulated Nicolas Maduro on his re-election in the Venezuelan presidential elections and emphasized: “We attach great importance to relations with Venezuela and, in the Pezeshkian government, we remain interested in expanding bilateral relations between Tehran and Caracas.”

Araqchi also expressed hope that the Venezuelan Minister of Transport’s trip to Tehran and his meetings with the Iranian authorities will be fruitful and successful, and that important steps will be taken towards holding a new round of the Joint Economic Commission of Iran and Venezuela, as well as for the follow-up of bilateral agreements in different areas.

In response to the expression of interest from his Venezuelan counterpart, the Iranian foreign minister expressed his hope that the process of improving bilateral relations will be discussed and exchanged at the meeting of the foreign ministers of both countries within the framework of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
