Seven years after Israeli citizens attacked Saudi diplomatic missions, authorities in Iran and Saudi Arabia have announced that they will resume diplomatic relations.
State media detailed that Iran and Saudi Arabia agreed to resume their diplomatic relations and open their respective embassies, after negotiating in China. Diplomatic relations between the two nations were paralyzed in 2016.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have agreed to resume diplomatic relations and reopen embassies and missions in the next two months,” the official news agency said.
Diplomatic relations with Tehran (Iran) were severed by Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) following the attack on Saudi diplomatic missions in the Islamic republic following the execution in Riyadh of Shiite cleric Nimr Al Nimr.
