The Press and Society Institute (IPYS), through a statement, condemned the physical attack suffered by the reporter Diana Falcón, from RPP, last Tuesday, March 15, by a member of State security when she was covering an activity of the President Pedro Castillo. The organization asked that those responsible for this attack on the journalist be identified.
“IPYS protests the attack against Diana Falcón and demands the immediate identification and punishment of those responsible for these acts. In addition, it complains about the violent and restrictive attitude of the president’s security that constantly attacks the press with the clear purpose of preventing coverage of presidential activities,” the institute said.
The incident occurred in downtown Lima, when the reporter, duly identified with the badge of her media outlet, was following the president peter castlewho was on his way to Congress on foot to give the message you had requested. The head of state was protected by his security and by agents of the National Police of Peru (PNP).

Diana Falcón denounced in RPP that the aggression against her was recorded leaving the Junín jirón. “He was an agent of the Special Services Unit-USE. It is not that I tried to approach the president or any of the members of the Executive, because it is very difficult to approach them and ask them questions, practically that possibility was ruled out, “she said.
“What I wanted was to get ahead of myself a little so that I could narrate what was the path that the authorities followed towards the Congress of the Republic and this USE agent elbowed me very hard on the left arm, in such a way that at this point I had a bruise on my left arm of approximately 5 centimeters, “he added.
RPP condemns aggression
The media outlet RPP has also published a statement condemning this attack against its journalist: “We regret and condemn the fact that members of the National Police of Peru used force today to prevent the journalistic work of our reporter Diana Falcón, during the transfer on foot of the president peter castle from the Government Palace to the Congress”.

“Diana has bruises on her body as a result of the blows she received. We will continue to be alert against these repetitive attacks against press freedom,” they added.
