A little less than a year of the general elections of 2026, the electoral authorities have insisted – once again – on the need to encourage greater citizen participation in suffrage; To that end, new formulas are evaluated such as the one that allows Peruvians who will be outside the country on the day of the elections vote identifying themselves with their passports.
The initiative, according to the survey conducted by Ipsos for Peru21, on April 13 and 14, has a 77% support of the population nationwide; Even the figure grows to 84% in Lima, but inside the country lows 73%.
The study, which covers rural and urban areas, also auscultates the population’s opinion on the possibility that voters that are abroad on April 12 vote electronically through a safe online system.
As with the first question, support for this proposal is high. 78% agree with this alternative and only 19% are pronounced against. In addition, support rises to 82% in the capital of the Republic.
The figures are interesting especially in a context in which, in Congress, the Constitution Commission has already approved, by majority, an opinion that authorizes Peruvians residing abroad to use their passports to vote.
