The work of those who care for people with disabilities or severe dependency is essential and often unpaid. To recognize and support this effort, the Social Security Institute (IPS) makes available a bond. This benefit seeks to provide direct relief to those who dedicate their time and energy to this important task.
IPS offers bonus for caregivers
In an effort to make visible and support the dedication of thousands of people, the IPS offers a bond intended for unpaid caregivers of people with disabilities. This financial support translates into concrete recognition of the daily and constant work that sustains the quality of life of those who require permanent assistance.
The amount of this bond reaches $32,991 per month, a figure that is adjusted annually according to the variation of the Consumer Price Index (CPI). This money has the characteristic of not being taxable or considered income, which allows the bonus to be compatible with other social aid, expanding family support.

The help is aimed exclusively at caregivers of people who have been diagnosed with a severe dependency situation, which is accredited by the relevant body. To access this bondthe person receiving care (the causer) must meet specific criteria defined by the Ministry of Social Development to validate the need.

So that the deceased (the person cared for) can access the benefit of the bondmust meet criteria defined by the Ministry of Social Development. These requirements include:
- Be enrolled in the Home Care Program for People with Severe Dependency and Caregivers, through CESFAM, CECOF or the corresponding rural post.
- Have an unpaid caregiver.
- Not be institutionalized in long-stay establishments, whether for older adults or minors.
