On October 17, 2021, an 11-year-old boy died in Guayaquil, in the middle of the crossing of bullets during an assault. The event triggered one of the last announcements of a state of emergency in the country.
The National Police announced the arrest of alias ‘Pepín’, in the cooperative 4 de Marzo, Los Esteros sector, in Guayaquil.
The criminal is involved in the attempted robbery of an ice cream parlor in the main port. During the fact, an 11-year-old boy passed away in the middle of the crossfire between alias ‘Pepín’ and a policeman who was dressed in civilian clothes.
According to the authorities, before taking part in these events, the antisocial He already registered four previous arrests: for theft in 2003 and 2007; for qualified theft, in 2011; and bullying, in 2015.
“A fellow police officer makes the progressive use of force where unfortunately the child under 11 years old is injured and dies,” General Fausto Buenaño, police chief of zone 8, lamented this Saturday about the event that occurred on Sunday, October 17, 2021 in the ice cream parlor located in the Centenario neighborhood.
The uniformed officer indicated that after intelligence investigations it was possible to reach the suspect’s house.
“We have as evidence two mobile terminals and two articles of clothing with which he had acted in this violent act,” he explained.
He stated that the same person was identified as participant in an assault in a pizzeria in the south of Guayaquil.
On the day of the event, the 11-year-old victim was with relatives at the scene and was killed by stray bullets.
That time, the minor was near the counter of the premises when he was caught in the crossfire during the robbery.
Days after the minor’s death, the Government announced the Exception status in nine provinces. With this it was arranged that the military join the control in the streets.
