The Punta Cana area, in the province of La Altagracia, is no longer just the only tourist destination that attracts investorsbut the work that has been done with tourism in the Dominican Republic has awakened interest in continuing to invest in a sector that continues to constantly grow.
This is understood by investors who participated in the panel “Dominican Republic, driving growth and innovation”, held at the 2024 Beyond Regional Conference of Wyndham Hotels & Resort, who highlighted the potential of the tourism sector and the opportunities it offers for the country. continue as one of the benchmarks as a destination in the region.
For businessman Edward De Valle, the legal security and political stability of the country, together with the joint work of the government and the private sector, have been key elements for investors in the sector to become interested in the Dominican Republic and its different destinations.
“Dominican tourism is “at its best”, registering sustained growth, which is estimated to reach 11.5 million visitors this year. To put it simply, the DR is experiencing a spectacular moment in tourism, becoming the support of the economy, generating jobs and creating the conditions to attract investment,” he said.
He recognized the effort made by the authorities to strengthen legal security in the country, which he considered a fundamental element to guarantee and attract more investments to that Caribbean nation.
While Gustavo Viescas, president of Wyndhan Hotels & Resort for Latin America, pointed out that in terms of tourism the DR is a success story in the region, from which everyone should look and learn.
“That public-private synergy that occurred here, everyone with the same objective and a whole set of elements, has made this country develop in the hotel industry in this way, creating new destinations,” he said.
He specified that thanks to this, for example, today we hear more about the destination of Miches, when a few years ago it was only Punta Cana.
“Today there is talk of a lot of destinations and places where there is public and private work,” he noted.
He assured that he has not seen a situation as conducive to developing the hotel industry in Latin America and the Caribbean as in the DR.
