This Thursday the National Assembly (AN) unanimously approved the Draft Law Approving the Agreement between the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the Republic of Colombia regarding the Promotion and Reciprocal Protection of Investments.
It should be noted that the bill was presented for its first discussion by Deputy Jesús Faría, which was approved. However, at the request of Deputy Timoteo Zambrano, who requested an “urgency motion” for the approval of the second discussion of the agreement, it was submitted for approval in the same session.
Faria: agreement deepens integration

For the parliamentarian, this agreement “is important due to the need to deepen Bolivarian integration.”
In this sense, he stressed that Venezuela and Colombia will be factors in the promotion of all the initiatives that are presented at the Latin American level.
“It is necessary to express that this agreement for the reciprocal protection of investments will be developed within the legal framework in force in the country, without repealing any of the regulations that govern the development model that points to socialism,” he said.
He noted that this issue occupies the “labour, environmental, where the economic and what generates development is directed towards the well-being of the people.”
He explained that this is “an economic model that has humanity as its fundamental purpose and for this the best political and social conditions are given.”
Resistance, peace and tranquility
Deputy Jesús Faría stressed that “we are facing the historical resistance of the people and from which we have peace and tranquility, which means a guarantee framework on our part so that this agreement translates into benefits for both countries.”
He reiterated that “any initiative and line of development will always be aimed at the benefit of the human being and socialist development.”
Finally, he stressed that “investment is a fundamental engine of any economy, and here despite the blockade, but with the political changes in Latin American and Caribbean countries make it possible to sign these agreements.”
“It is a challenge to the hegemonic policies of the United States, anything we can do for the people we will assume with unity to develop in socialism,” he said.

On the opposition side, the deputies of the opposition Democratic Alliance expressed support for the agreement in favor of the country.
The opposition expressed that the bill should have a later review of the term used in the project on the protection and promotion of cross-border investments.
The legal agreement “must go beyond the issue of the border,” they stated.

Designation of the Ambassador in Colombia approved
Also unanimously approved in this Thursday’s session was the authorization for the appointment of the citizen Carlos Eduardo Martínez Mendoza as Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the Republic of Colombia.
When presenting the arguments for his appointment, the deputy Saul Ortega He stressed that this is a good time for Carlos Martínez to accompany the policies of President Nicolás Maduro, from Colombia.
The new representative of Venezuela in Colombia “will play an extraordinary role because both countries remained without relations for more than seven years, due to the hostility of the past Uribe government against the Bolivarian Revolution,” said Ortega.
“We are in the best moment that Latin America is experiencing, a stellar moment, because there are progressive and democratic governments, and we know that this irritates imperialism,” he said.
