Military personnel investigated by the Federal Police (PF) on suspicion of planning a coup d’état After the 2022 elections, they monitored the official residence of the Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes.
The investigators concluded that the accused had the objective of arresting Moraes, but the plan was canceled after the postponement of a STF session.
“The messages exchanged between members of the World Cup 2022 group demonstrate that those investigated were in the field, divided into specific locations to possibly carry out actions with the aim of arresting Minister Alexandre de Moraes”, says an excerpt from the report.
According to investigators, the supposed operation to arrest Moraes was canceled after the announcement of the postponement of the Supreme Court session that judged the issue of Congress’ secret budget.
The news of the postponement was shared in the instant messaging group created by the defendants.
Then the clandestine operation was cancelled. “Abort… Austria… return to the landing site… we are still here”, said one of those investigated.
Operation
The information is contained in the intelligence report of Operation Countercoup, launched this Tuesday (19) to arrest five soldiers who intended to prevent the inauguration of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva at the end of former President Jair Bolsonaro’s government.
According to the investigations, the accused carried out a clandestine operation identified as World Cup 2022 on December 15, 2022, three days after the ceremony in which the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), which was presided over by Moraes, graduated Lula and Geraldo Alckmin to the status as president and vice-elect in the October elections of that year.
To avoid leaving a trace, members of the operation used third-party telephone lines and the codenames Germany, Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Japan and Ghana to be used during communication, which was carried out through the Signal application, whose content is encrypted.
After analyzing the messages seized during the investigation and analyzing the location of the cell phones, the PF concluded that it is “completely plausible” that Alexandre de Moraes’ functional residence was monitored by one of those investigated.
Lula and Alckmin
In the same investigation, the PF indicates that those investigated had a plan to assassinate Lula and Alckmin. On this date, Lula was in São Paulo, participating in an event with recyclable material collectors. Alckmin met with governors in a hotel in Brasília.
