Investigations continue after explosion, affected remain in a hotel

The investigations that help determine the causes of the explosion in the PH Urbana, located on Calle 54 Obarrio, continue, reported the General Directorate of the Meritorious Fire Department of the Republic of Panama.
(BCBRP).

In conjunction with officials from the Public Ministry, the firefighters go from floor to floor to gather information that will reveal the causes of the explosion. The team of the Meritorious Fire Department, SINAPROC and the construction companies carried out work to guarantee the safety of the people who work in the investigation.

The authorities highlighted that after concluding the search and rescue phase yesterday and starting the investigations, this Wednesday, November 2, they authorized several companies that run the buildings adjacent to the PH Urbana, which were affected, to remove debris and carry out the technical verifications, together with BCBRP and SINAPROC personnel, to determine if they can be inhabited as soon as possible.

The residents in the evicted buildings are, by instructions of the president of the
República, Laurentino Cortizo Cohen, in a local hotel, until he has a safe place to live.

It was reported that the commercial premises that were affected are already operating; however, the Samuel Lewis road is still closed from 51st to 55th streets, due to the risks they represent for the people who pass through there.

The figure remains at 20 injured, of which three are of consideration and remain in the Santo Tomas Hospital, another in the Complex of the Social Security Fund (CSS) and the third in Punta Pacifica.
