The Maldonado Police Chief, Julio Pioli, reported that his Headquarters, in collaboration with the Intelligence Directorate of the National Police, is investigating the case of the persecution and threat against journalist Alfonso Lessa. “We are working,” Pioli said and avoided giving more details because it is an ongoing procedure. Lessa denounced that, on August 19, he was intercepted by a car on Ruta Interbalnearia when he was driving with his wife towards Punta del Este. After passing the second entrance toll to the department of Maldonado, he traveled several kilometers and reached an area where there is very little light, which he defined as “complicated” and explained that, in the dark, he saw the headlights of a car that was driving very high speed and suddenly parked on your left.
After a few kilometers of pursuit, when they reached an area where there were more lights and radars, he saw that the car was far away. Hours later, he made the complaint and contacted the authorities of the Ministry of the Interior and Minister Luis Alberto Heber.
