He Uruguayan Institute of Meteorology (Inumet) issued a yellow alert for severe storms on the afternoon of this Friday, which affects towns in the northwest, center and east of the country.
Specifically, an “atmospheric disturbance associated with a humid and unstable air mass” affects the country, which generates storms “some occasionally strong”, indicates the agency’s statement.
“It should be noted that in areas of storms intense rains may be recorded in short periods, occasional hail fall, intense electrical activity and strong gusts of windInumet warned.
Initially it was a double alert that affected the northwest and northeast of the national territory, but around 5:00 p.m. the institute updated it and a single warning began to apply, covering parts of the northwest, center, and east of the country.
The institute will continue to monitor the situation and will inform you of any changes. The alert will be updated at 20:30.
