Inti Raymi 2022: the Festival of the Sun was celebrated again in Cusco (PHOTOS)

The staging of the Inca court ceremony: Inti Raymi, was carried out in all its magnitude this 2022, after being suspended in 2020 and held without an audience in 2021, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The authorities saw fit to develop this staging in its three classic scenarios: Qorikancha Temple, Plaza Mayor of Cusco and Temple of Sacsayhuamán, where thousands of locals and tourists came to witness the show.

The first act began at 09:00 in the Qorikancha, where the Ceremony of the Sacred Fire, lit thanks to the rays of the Sun, who gave their permission for the start of Inti Raymi, in this scenario the four of them get together for the first time.

Subsequently, the Rite of Coca and the Encounter of Two Worlds were developed, between the Inca and the mayor of the city of Cusco, who talk and the current ruler receives instructions and advice on how to move the city forward.

Finally, the last act of the dramatization took place on the esplanade of Sacsayhuamán, where the curacas of the four of them give their report to the Inca, the Rite of La Chicha, the Sacred Fire, the Sacrifice and finally the Q’ocharikuy or popular exaltation for having satisfactorily completed the entire ceremony.

A LOT IN FAVOR AND A LOT TO IMPROVE.

For this June, the arrival of 70 thousand national and foreign tourists to Cusco was expected, a figure that was achieved, and maintain an occupancy of at least 65% of the hotel infrastructure, which was also achieved, serving to promote the economic and tourist reactivation of the Imperial Citywhich has tourism as one of its main activities.

The bad thing was that the dramatization did not start on time in many acts, such as in the Plaza Mayor in Cusco, where the ceremony was scheduled for 10:00 a.m. but it started almost at 11:00, the same thing happened in Sacsayhuamán. In addition to reported problems of entry and access to the seats sold in Sacsayhuamán, many tourists struggled to enter their places ticket in hand.

The ugly thing was finding the streets dirty and even converted into latrines at certain points, it is worth mentioning that in addition to the large number of people who attracted the Inti Raymi, the completion of the second act in the main square, It coincided with the procession of various saints and virgins in the so-called Octave of Corpus Christi.

In addition, damage was reported in the Cathedral of Cusco, whose friezes and cornices were climbed by locals and tourists in order to achieve a better view of the Inti Raymi. damaging the already ancient structure; Internet users shared images of the fractured and even broken heritage.
