The Panama Metro health region participated this Friday in a mega intersectoral operation against dengue in the 24 de Diciembre district, with the support of the Municipality of Panama (MUPA), the Institutional Protection System (SPI) and the Urban and Home Cleaning Authority (AAUD).
Ricardo Torres Castillo, regional director of Panama Metro, said that this operation in the sectors of the districts that report the most cases is part of the action to mitigate the breeding grounds of mosquitoes that transmit dengue.
“We will continue with sweeps to detect potential breeding sites and nebulizations to eliminate adult mosquitoes. In addition, we want to raise awareness among the population that dengue is a disease that can kill and that there are four serotypes circulating in the country,” said Torres Castillo.
The Metropolitan Health Region reports 3,009 confirmed cases of dengue, 4 deaths corresponding to the districts of Betania, Curundú, Pedregal and 24 de Diciembre.
The five districts with the most cases are: Las Garzas (1,412), December 24 (540), Veracruz (181), Las Mañanitas (121 and Tocumen (102).
The Ministry of Health has declared a health alert in the regions of Panama Metro, San Miguelito, Colon, Panama East and Panama West. To date, more than 8,000 cases and 20 deaths have been confirmed nationwide.
They reiterate to the population to reinforce the elimination of all objects that can be breeding grounds such as: bottles, saucers, cans, used tires and above all the call to the communities, to carry out cleanings in their residences, neighborhoods and sectors.
