SANTO DOMINGO.- Police agents, attached to the OCN-INTERPOL Santo Domingo, arrested a Haitian citizen who was being wanted by the authorities of his country, for belonging to the dangerous criminal gang called “Los 400 Mawozo”, which is dedicated to commit various criminal acts.

The prisoner is Lerby Belus, 36, who, through intelligence work, was arrested on the Autovía del Este, near the La Romana tollbooth, when he was traveling in a Hyundai Sonata car, license plate No. A976730.

During the arrest, the foreigner was seized four passports that belonged to different people, a driver’s license No. 00389-Ac, a debit card, a cell phone, as well as a suitcase that contained clothing inside and the sum of 2,450 dollars.

At the same time as the capture of Lerby Belus, a man of the same nationality who was on board the vehicle was also arrested, who, after being purged and having no criminal record, was dispatched with his belongings.

Meanwhile, Lerby Belus was handed over to the authorities of the neighboring country for the corresponding legal purposes.

This is one of the most numerous gangs in Haiti, dedicated to the commission of different criminal modalities, including “express kidnapping”, through which they kidnap people on public roads, to later negotiate a price for the freedom of the victim.

“The 400 Mawozo”, through this method, have been involved in some cases of international importance.
