International tourist arrivals exceeded 2.7 million between January and October 2024

The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) reported that between January and October of this year, Peru received a total of 2,720,719 international tourists, which represents a growth of 34.1% in relation to the same period in the year. 2023.

This increase was led by visitors from Chile, the United States, Ecuador, Brazil, Bolivia and Colombia. Only those six countries represented 65.9% of the total international tourists who arrived in the country.

According to the recent Monthly Tourism Report, prepared by Mincetur, between January and October of this year, a total of 594,315 Chilean tourists visited the national territory; followed by 502,173 Americans, 244,429 Ecuadorians, 157,690 Brazilians, 154,066 Bolivians and 138,746 Colombians.

The number of travelers from Chile registered a growth of 21.4%; while that of the United States 28.3%, of Ecuador 25.2%, of Brazil 48.9%, of Bolivia 53.7% and of Colombia 18.6%.

The same report shows that, between January and October 2024, lThe number of tourists from Poland, the Dominican Republic and India exceeded pre-pandemic levels. According to the aforementioned report, in that period a total of 10,946 Polonians visited the different corners of the country (21.6% more compared to 2019), 10,672 Dominicans (+38.8%) and 8,981 Indians ( +14.9%).

Likewise, compared to 2023, between January and October of this year there was a notable growth in tourists from Uruguay, Japan, Canada and China. In this sense, the report indicates that in 2024 a total of 13,056 Uruguayans visited the different corners of the country (76.7% more than in the same period of the previous year), 17,657 Japanese (+100.1%), 61,231 Canadians (+75.0%) and 29,693 Chinese (+85.3%). Likewise, it shows that the number of Poles who entered the national territory this year, a figure mentioned above, increased considerably by 88.2%.

At the regional block level, South America contributed 51.8% of international tourists (1,408,808), followed by North America with 23.9% (650,244) and Europe with 16.8% (456,339). Asia contributed 3.8% (103,126 tourists) and Central America 2.7% (72,235).

Projections

Peru’s goal is to receive 3.5 million international tourists by the end of 2024 and the goal of reaching pre-pandemic levels in 2025, which was 4.4 million foreign visitors. This would generate 1.3 million jobs and contribute 2.9% to the country’s Gross Domestic Product, according to the projections managed by Mincetur.
