International paper, the inconsistencies in the Marset case

In these editions of La Colonia, we will be delving into the case of the Uruguayan narco Sebastián Marset, its possible implication in the murder of the Paraguayan prosecutor Marcelo Pecci, executed in Colombia, and the incredible “express” renewal of his passport, by Uruguay, when He was detained in Dubai, for carrying a false Paraguayan passport.

“disoriented”

The Paraguayan International Affairs Prosecutor, Manuel Doldán, indicated that he requested from the Uruguayan Prosecutor’s Office the videos broadcast on a Uruguayan television news program where drug trafficker Sebastián Marset appears, in the investigation into the murder of Paraguayan prosecutor Marcelo Pecci.

“We are really confused. We have also received the information through the video,” Doldán told the ABC newspaper about Marset’s statements that were viralized in a video on Telenoche on Uruguayan channel 4.

In one video, a man, claiming to be Marset, is seen demanding that they stop talking about him if they don’t have proof. “If you have proof of something, speak calmly, but if you don’t have proof, don’t speak. They don’t get tired of talking, they have me rotten, ”he said among other things.

In one of the videos, the individual maintains: “They have no proof of anything they say, nothing. In my passport, as you are going to see, they threw dates from everywhere and none of them hit it. They are shooting and they haven’t pocketed, if they play 5 gold or the lottery they won’t pocket any numbers. They are wandering far, far away. Stop talking so much about people, they don’t respect anything, I don’t know how much they earn for everything they do and for being on TV, but it’s a little uncomfortable for me. A little enough”.

“I ask you to please end this. As I told you, if you have proof of something, speak calmly, but you have no proof of anything you say, you don’t even know the date I was released, when they gave me my passport. Nothing nothing. Just talk. They talk and talk and do not get tired of talking in all countries, on all networks, on all channels, they have me rotten, “he concluded.

In the videos, the man identifies himself as Marset, the narco repeatedly mentioned in recent weeks, in the context of the controversy generated by the issuance of his Uruguayan passport when he was imprisoned in Dubai, an issue that led the interior ministers, Luis Alberto Heber and Foreign Relations, Francisco Bustillo, will be questioned next Monday in the Senate by the opposition Broad Front party.

Doldán explained to ABC that the IP address of the broadcast video is from South Africa, “but it is known that there are adulteration mechanisms to hide the true location,” he said. The prosecutor reported that he contacted his peer from International Affairs in Uruguay, but he also had no more information than those mentioned. He also contacted the Paraguayan ambassador to South Africa to request information about his possible entry into that country.

The case of the Paraguayan prosecutor

Pecci was assassinated on May 10 on an island near the Colombian city of Cartagena de Indias, where he was on his honeymoon. The events occurred on a beach on the island of Barú, which is about 40 minutes away by boat, according to the Paraguayan embassy in Colombia and Interpol, which is investigating the events.

A little over three months after the murder, the investigation points to the relations between members of a Paraguayan criminal family, known as the Insfrán clan, and the Uruguayan narco Marset, the Colombian narco group “Los Paisas” and the Venezuelan criminal gang “Tren of Aragua”.

Pecci’s work was key in Operation Extremely, the largest against drug trafficking in the country. With the operation, it was possible to disrupt the organization led by Marset together with the head of the Insfrán family, Miguel Ángel Insfrán, and which had been operating since 2017.

Francisco Luis Correa Galeano, whom the Prosecutor’s Office considers to be responsible for coordinating Pecci’s assassination and seeks to cooperate with the Colombian authorities to avoid his extradition to the United States, detailed the transnational links in the case. According to his statement, he was commissioned by the Insfrán clan to hire the assassins through the Tren de Aragua, a Venezuelan criminal mega-gang originally from the state of Aragua.

The Colombian Prosecutor’s Office formally accused Correa Galeano this Friday of Pecci’s murder. Lol The representative of the Pecci family, lawyer Francisco Bernate, told EFE that Correa Galeano must now go to trial as allegedly “responsible for the crimes of aggravated homicide and manufacturing, trafficking, carrying or possession of firearms, accessories, parts or aggravated ammunition”. “The next hearing in the case will be on September 19,” explained Bernate.

Marset’s profile

It is not every day that a Uruguayan reaches the top of international drug trafficking, which is why the case of Sebastián Marset continues to be one of the most talked about in the region. Especially when at the center of the controversy is the fact of having obtained a passport from Uruguay while he was detained in Dubai for carrying false documentation.

But in order to have reached that point, and to build a criminal organization installed in Paraguay, the contribution of other Uruguayans and relatives who made up what regional intelligence called a “family clan” was necessary. Each one played a particular role, some with greater involvement, others with less, but in all cases they were in charge, especially, of undertaking business activities with the simple objective of building a “facade” behind which to launder the dirty money generated by drug trafficking.

In the next edition of La Colonia, we will continue to delve into the profile of this character, and mainly the inconsistencies of the Foreign Ministry before the renewal of his passport while he was detained in Dubai.
