The current technical head of the island’s federation took charge of the training of the main Cuban gladiators after the death of the award-winning coach Pedro Val, another reference in the world of fights.
From that responsibility he achieved important successes in top-level tournaments, guiding the most important gladiators of recent times, such as Ismael Borrero, Luis Orta, Gabriel Rosillo, but especially the legendary Mijain Lopez.
Trujillo was the architect of the Horseshoe Giant’s last three Olympic titles (Rio de Janeiro 2016, Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024), who thus closed his legendary career with five crowns under the five rings.
Upon hearing the news, the prestigious coach declared to the Jit sports portal that his work had continued that of other prominent technicians who preceded him and that he had never pursued awards with his work like those he has deserved.
“I have always worked for my country, for our great people, who deserve this and many more awards,” he added.
He also highlighted the efforts, courage and patriotism of Mijaín and other champions who accepted and praised his teaching.
According to reports, Trujillo will receive the award on November 24 during a ceremony to be held in the Swiss city of Lausanne, where the IOC headquarters is located.
