Spokespersons from the United States, Colombia and the OAS expressed their resounding rejection of the acts of violence suffered by Juan Guaidó in Cojedes and last week in Maracaibo, while they agree that the actions of Chavismo when it comes to repression must be denounced and require Justice
The last tour carried out by the president of the National Assembly (AN) elected in 2015 and interim president recognized by the international community, Juan Guaidó, ended in a act of violence promoted by militants of chavismo.
The attack suffered by the opposition leader —who reported that his vehicle received bullet wounds— in San Carlos, Cojedes state, was not isolated. just a week before, a similar event occurred in Maracaibo, Zulia statewhere he was the victim of a violent attack by a group of supporters of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV).
This escalation of violence in recent weeks seems to make clear a policy on the part of Chavismo, which would incite its militant bases to provoke chaos and attack the leader. At least that is the thesis of Guaidó himself, who accused the Chavista deputies Nosliw Rodríguez and Marcos Mendoza of having led the “ambush against him” in Cojedes.
Faced with this onslaught, the allies that Guaidó retains on the international scene spoke out to condemn the events and lambast the ruling party for its aggressive practices against the free political exercise of the opposition.
In the first place, the United States government, a fundamental bastion for the interim government headed by Juan Guaidó, spoke through the spokesman for the Undersecretary of State for the Western Hemisphere, Brian Nichols, who expressed Washington’s concern about these attacks. unilateral against the opponent.
“We are deeply concerned about the gratuitous attack suffered by President Juan Guaidó and his team. This ferocious attack risked lives. Those responsible for the assault must be brought to justice,” he posted on his Twitter account just hours after the incident.

Subsequently, the Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, also expressed his concern about these attacks that denote an escalation of violence, harassment and intimidation against those who exercise democracy in the country.

The United States is deeply concerned and we condemn this escalation of acts of violence, harassment and intimidation against the interim president and all those who defend democracy, “he stressed on his Twitter account.

From the south, some regional allies also demonstrated against the Chavista actions. For example, the vice president and chancellor of Colombia, Marta Lucía Ramírez, stated that the New Granadan country condemned the events and accused the government of Nicolás Maduro of violating the human rights of opposition politicians.
“We condemn the aggression and the attack to which President Juan Guaidó was subjected today. In Venezuela, a dictatorship persists that persecutes, violates human rights and uses violence against those who fight for freedom, democracy and the progress of the Venezuelan people”, he stressed.

In addition, the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, reiterated his customary support for the interim government and lambasted Chavismo for the use of militants that he described as “collective assassins.”

Defense of Guaidó behind closed doors
Within the Venezuelan borders, the support for Guaidó was more remarkable. Various leaders and political leaders demonstrated to condemn the act and criticize the ruling party.
In this sense, the mayor’s office of San Carlos, the town where the attack took place, published a release to express solidarity with Juan Guaidó “for the physical and verbal attacks carried out by supporters of the PSUV.”
The mayor, Alexander Mireles, established that the entity rejects any act against political leaders who exercise their rights to mobilize and claim.

The former Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD), which has now changed to the Democratic Unity Platform, also published a statement despising the fact and emphasizing the situation of the country’s political prisoners, victims of the government’s authoritarianism.
“Events like this show the mood of the oppressive regime that today misrule Venezuela. Our nation, with more than 200 civil and military political prisoners, victim of the ravages of the lack of public services, unbridled inflation, a complex humanitarian crisis”, they explain.
On the other hand, they made it clear that the opposition intends to follow its path of civically claiming, protesting and demanding a change of government through civic and democratic tools.
“Events like these force us to fight with more force to quickly achieve free elections in Venezuela, so that they finally lead us to achieve the freedom of our country. From the Unitary Platform we will not cease our efforts to reach an agreement of democratic unity that guarantees the rights of all the Venezuelan people, “they add.
