In the facilities of the Rómulo Gallegos Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (Celarg) in Caracas the installation of the International Colloquium “Ayacucho 1924-2024: Unity, sovereignty and peace” took place, which will run until December 8.

The president of Celarg, Pedro Calzadilla, welcomed those attending the event and highlighted the importance of the event that will be conducive to deepening the analysis and history of the battle of Ayacucho, which will celebrate its bicentennial on December 9.

“What a joy to be here at this moment of the homeland, at this moment of our America, of the great homeland. Welcome to all the international guests, to all the groups, institutions, that make life in the movement of insurgent history, a movement that exists in Venezuela, which brings together personalities, groups, institutions, of those of us who are active in the cause of the homeland, of historical consciousness, of the liberation of our homeland and our America in a very close commitment not only to the past, but above all to the present,” he declared.

For his part, the president of the National Center for Historical Studies, Omar Hurtado, joined the celebration of the meeting and stressed the relevance of the legacy left by the battle.

“For us, the Ayacucho campaign is the result of a strategy developed by the Liberator, executed masterfully by Antonio José de Sucre, and that produced the result of a fight that has not ceased. As Commander Chávez said, they are not two different fights. , it’s the same fight. We have been fighting against imperialism for 200 years and we have shown that people willing to be free defeat great empires. That is the commitment,” he emphasized.

Likewise, the Vice Minister of Education and president of the Simón Bolívar Study Center, Alejandro López, recalled the deeds of the Liberator and how he achieved “concretion in the Great Republic of Colombia, uniting Panama, Ecuador, Venezuela, to today’s Colombia; “That Great Republic, which more than a dream was the great military power of its time, achieved the liberation of Venezuela, New Granada, Ecuador and Peru.”

It is worth noting that the aforementioned colloquium will have more than 20 speakers from countries such as Venezuela, Peru, Colombia, Bolivia, Panama, Argentina, Cuba, Honduras, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Spain.
