The Minister for Communication and Information, Freddy Ñáñez, inaugurated this Tuesday the International Forum of Alternative Media, at the Teresa Carreño Theater, where national and international guests honored the communicator people.
“People were able to reverse the first media coup 20 years ago and during two decades of conspiracies. What better space than the Summit Against Fascism in its communicational chapter? Our gratitude goes to those who visit us », wrote the also Vice President of Communication, Culture and Tourism, from his official Twitter account.
Ñáñez was giving statements to various media outlets, including Venezolana de Televisión (VTV). “This April 12 commemorate 20 years since those men and women were able to overcome the censorship suffered by VTV so that Venezuela did not know the reality of what was happening, that there was a coup against the commander, Chávez.”
“That day, the people became communicators through calls, text messages, word of mouth, improvised banners, but above all through the popular communicators who since the 1980s had been struggling to participate. in the democratization of the national radioelectric space”, analyzed the Minister.
Likewise, from the Forum, Ñáñez stressed that in current times of misinformation and attacks on Venezuela through social networks, it is necessary to remember what the people were capable of doing in 2002, creating awareness when traditional media had ceased to be tools. “Permanent training in these mechanisms is the best alternative to fight a media war,” he concluded.
