Internal PRD and RM will cost more than 4 million dollars

The Electoral Tribunal (TE) has everything prepared for the start of the primary elections of the political parties next Sunday, June 4, 2023, to choose their candidates for president, deputies to the National Assembly, mayors and corregimiento representatives, as established by Decree 29 of May 30, 2022.

The electoral roll of the RM party is 234,700, who will vote in 513 centers and 655 tables, whose internal election has a cost of 1,353,111 balboas, while the PRD has 731,267 members, in 1,165 voting centers and with 1,978 voting tables. The primaries of the ruling party have a cost of 3,120,000 balboas.

The institution will finance, supervise the funds and organize the presidential primary election of the Realizing Goals (RM) party for this June 4, and on July 2 the candidacies for deputies, mayors, corregimiento representatives and councilors will be chosen.

The TE will only finance and supervise the use of the money for the primaries of the Democratic Revolutionary Party (PRD) on June 11, of Cambio Democrático (CD) on July 9 and of the Panameñista Party on July 23.

The presiding magistrate Alfredo Juncá Wendehake stated that Thursday, before any election, is a time for voters to reflect to analyze the candidates’ proposals, so electoral propaganda is allowed until 11:59 p.m.

For his part, Eduardo Valdés Escoffery, first vice-president magistrate and director of PLAGEL, maintained that, from today, and for 60 days, the period begins for the pre-candidates by free application to carry out their political campaigns or paid advertising.

While the second vice-president magistrate, Luis A. Guerra Morales, stressed that for the primaries there will be observers from the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Inter-American Union of Electoral Organizations (UNIORE).
