At about 10:00 a.m. next Sunday, the plenary session of the central committee of the Socialist Party is scheduled, which was summoned in person at the BancoEstado workers’ union. According to the information provided by the general secretary of the community, Camilo Escalona, there is a point that will be addressed in a table: the “Report of the Socialist Collective of the Constitutional Convention.”
According to La Tercera reports, the party confirmed that the various socialist representatives were summoned to the Constitutional Convention in order to account for the work carried out in the last 12 months of operation of the drafting body, which will deliver the next July 4 the proposal for a new Constitution to the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric.
In this way and in a symbolic way, the Socialist Collective’s conventional members will deliver the proposal to the central committee of the community in the prelude to the official ceremony. In the same meeting, it is expected that of the 110 members, the political vote of the community for the Approval will be communicated.
In this sense, the constituent Tomás Laibe indicated that “the conventional members of the Socialist Collective, militants and independents, will participate in the central committee of the Socialist Party to give an account of what our work was in the Convention and contribute with inputs to the territorial deployment that all the militants of the party will do from July 5 onwards”.
“We socialists are committed to the Approval and we know that the result does not matter. On September 4 we have a historic decision to make: overcome the 1980 Constitution or open the doors of a new democracy with a social and democratic State of law,” he added.
For his part, the deputy and vice-president of the collective, Leonardo Soto, maintained that the assistance of the conventionalists is given within “a kind of ‘retribution’ to the Socialist Collective, which represented our gaze in the constituent process, with a performance that has been recognized across the board”.
“At the same time, we are going to receive the exposure of them and other constitutional experts, and with this we are going to make a formal decision about joining the Approval campaign,” concluded the parliamentarian.
