The weekend in São Paulo started off perfect for McLaren’s British driver Lando Norris. This Saturday (8), the driver won the sprint race at the Interlagos race track and, to top it off, he recorded the best time in qualifying training for the Brazilian GP. With this, in the final stretch of the Formula 1 season, it has the chance to open up an advantage in the race for the category’s unprecedented title.
This Sunday, Norris starts first, followed by Kimi Antonelli, from Mercedes and Charles Leclerc, from Ferrari. Oscar Piastri, Norris’ McLaren teammate and main competitor in the fight to be champion of the season, will start in fourth place. The test is scheduled for 3pm Brasília time.
At the beginning of the day, in the sprint race, Norris came out on top, being accompanied by Antonelli and George Russell, from Mercedes in the top 3. As a result, he gained eight more points over Piastri, who had a collision and didn’t score any points. Norris jumped to 365 points, nine more than Piastri.
Another highlight of the sprint race was Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto, from Sauber. He crashed on the last lap and the car was destroyed. The team tried to recover the car so that it could participate in qualifying, but was unable to complete the mission with the tight deadline. As a result, Bortoleto will start from the pits, in last place.
Third placed in the race for the drivers’ title, Dutchman Max Verstappen, champion of the last four seasons, did very poorly in the classification, finishing only 16th. Another legend, the British Lewis Hamilton, owner of seven titles, will start his Ferrari in 13th place.
