Interior ordered urgent investigation to determine adulteration in Astesiano's file

The Executive Tower ensures that there was “deception in the information received by the president”, which would explain the omission of the background information.

The Ministry of the Interior ordered an urgent administrative investigation on Wednesday afternoon to determine if there was adulteration in the criminal record information of Alejandro Astesiano that was sent to the President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, according to reports. The country and confirmed Montevideo Portal.

In two sheets of the file of the former head of security of the president, who received the Presidency in March 2020 and September 2021, the background of the prosecution for fraud that he had in 2002 and the sentence ordered by the Justice in 2014, for the same crime.

The Ministry of the Interior issued a statement in which it maintains that “the President of the Republic was informed in a timely manner” by the Secretary of State “that Mr. Alejandro Astesiano’s personal file had no criminal record.”

“Surprisingly, the current file contains a record for a criminal case from 2013,” added the portfolio in the statement, which also reports the provision of the emergency investigation in the orbit of the National Directorate of Scientific Police ” to establish who or who altered the information».

“There is deception in the information received by the president,” sources from the Presidency told Montevideo Portal. “In March 2020 there was no background. In September 2021 they were not either. Now they do appear, so it is clear that the information was changed, “they added.

The Interior investigation takes place after the Executive Tower learned this Wednesday that Astesiano was imprisoned for four months in the Las Rosas prison, Maldonado, in 2013.

From the Presidency they asked the Ministry of the Interior for explanations. It’s all still “very confusing,” they told Montevideo Portal. For them, one thing is clear: Astesiano efficiently hid the crime and punishment chapter from him, but how did he do it?

The possibility that someone has “deleted it expressly” is the one that resonates the most —and the most serious— at this time among those close to the president. In that case, there would be a specific responsible.

However, from the Ministry of the Interior they informed the Presidency that “there is not a single database” of the people who committed crimes. That is to say, there is more than one record of personal files and the possible “differences” between them could constitute a sort of explanation for such an omission.

In this context, the Presidency is also trying to determine why the last antecedent “appeared” now, since that will allow the explanations to advance.

On the other hand, in a new version of Astesiano’s file (which is not the one we spread with images below), accessed by Montevideo Portal, it is observed that the former Lacalle security chief was questioned on January 17, 2022, by the Department of Investigation and Criminal Intelligence of the Directorate of Investigations of the National Police, for “taking advantage of counterfeiting”.
