Interior Minister: “We have 22 police officers and 16 civilians injured, and one death”

The social upheaval does not stop. The Minister of the Interior, Vicente Romero, gave an assessment of what happened this Thursday, January 19, during the demonstrations that took place at the national level.

“We have 22 police officers and 16 civilians injured, and one deceased” was what the head of the Interior said and explained that the “protests began in the morning, peacefully, but little by little they developed more violently.”

The head of the Interior reported that, “in compliance with their work, until 7:30 pm a total of 22 brave police officers, of whom 15 are in Lima, have suffered various injuries and physical injuries, which are being treated by healthcare professionals”.

Regarding the protesters who attacked the police officers with blunt objects and huaracas, he warned that they will go through an identification process.

“The identification of those people who have caused attacks against the physical integrity of police personnel, using huaracas and other forceful means,” added the minister.

What did he say about the house fire?

The Minister of the Interior, He denied that the police had started the fire that broke out in a building in the vicinity of Plaza San Martín.

“There was a fire a moment ago in Lima, in the Carabaya jirón. Information is circulating that this fire had been caused by a tear gas device used by the police, which is completely false.”said Minister Romero.

“I can put that tear gas device in my pocket and it doesn’t cause fire burns, just the gas is what causes it”he added.
