Interior Minister, Juan José Santiváñezproposed a modification in criminal regulations so that 16 and 17 years adolescents are subjects of criminal law in extortion cases.
Santiváñez justified his proposal arguing that criminal organizations are recruiting minors, who actively participate in the growing wave of insecurity in the country.
“We want children, we respect children, but we cannot deny that there are teenagers with the ability to discern that are involving, knowingly, with criminal organizations,” he said.
The Mininter holder also assured that the Executive is providing the National Police with all the necessary tools to combat crime.
“I would ask for, Mr. Congressman (Raúl Huamán), if possible to review the regulations so that children under 16 and 17 are subjects of criminal law. It is an issue that we must put on the table,” he added.
