From the Special Multiparty Commission of Congress, together with the National Commission for Development and Life without Drugs (Devida), they have summoned the interior minister Juan José Santiváñez, to declare about the withdrawal of financing from the Escorpión group of the Dirandro that he United Kingdom held at the end of November.
LOOK: Police inefficiency puts anti-drug fight in ports and airports at risk
As revealed Peru21through a letter obtained by this newspaper, a senior official from the United Kingdom Home Office in Latin America (HOIO) informed the Peruvian anti-drug director, PNP General Luis Flores Solis, that the British Government will stop providing financial support to that special team because “it has become evident that the project is not meeting the established objectives and results.” That is, total inefficiency.
This special team is an expert in neutralizing drug trafficking in international airports and seaports. It is better known as the Getaa team. It currently operates in three airports in Peru and in the port of Callao.
In addition, the congressional summons also responds to port security that is booming after the inauguration of the Port of Chancay. And on November 19, a document revealed the Police Anti-Drug Directorate (Dirandro). In one of its paragraphs it said the following: “Having inaugurated the Chancay megaport, the assignment of police personnel is necessary.” Until then everything seemed normal. However, the concern of the officers and non-commissioned officers who read the statement arose when they saw that the required personnel had to be “volunteer.”
According to Dirandro officials, they are asking for volunteer police because Chancay is very far away. They assured that many of the agents take two and a half hours to arrive, so they are looking for personnel who live in districts near the port, such as Ancón. Just as you hear it: their training or experience does not matter, it only matters that they live near Chancay.
The Ministry of the Interior (Mininter) will have to respond with official documentation required by the Legislature and in this regard, they have informed the same General Commander of the Police, Víctor Zanabria, to whom they forwarded the invitation through the chief of staff of advisors of the Mininter, Erick Caso.
